Having read Kathy Acker's writing and what others have written about her (such as Dodie Bellamy's excellent essay in When the Sick Rule the World (Semiotext(e) / Active Agents)), I was curious to learn more about Acker herself and was excited to see that Chris Kraus had written her biography.
The first is an account of Chris Burden’s 1972 performance piece TV Hijack , which took place around the time Acker was first experimenting with DIY self-publication (producing works such as Politics and The Childlike Life of the Black Tarantula ). After Kathy Acker (Semiotext[e]), by Chris Kraus, is an informal biography that mines Acker’s formative influences—her raucous relationships, her inflammatory views, her unconventional writing process, and her dedication to crafting a life outside mainstream norms.
